Delicious beverages found in the northern sector of Ghana

Beside the Cokes, Fantas and Beers, Ghana has
its own awesome local beverages which are more
nutritious than the imports.
Almost every tribe has its form of beverage, but the
people 0f the North are well known for having numerous
kinds of drinks which are often prepared from special
grains and plants.
Here are some of these beverages you definitely need to
try.
1. Brukina
A song was even composed for this beverage. This
beverage is made from fresh milk, usually from cows,
with some few nutritive ingredients added to it to make
it more delicious better. So instead of always buying
this factory manufactured milk all the time, a cup
brukina a day will be good for you.
2. Tankwan Beer
Tankwan beer is made from spices thus explaining its
‘chilly’ but delicious taste . The ingredients are highly
nutritive because it contains a variety of spices that are
all good for the body and helps burn unnecessary
calories. It’s also rumored to be good for the ‘manhood’.
3. Ataya
Ataya, which is usually speculated to be a potency
beverage, is prepared from the ataya leaf. It is a form of
tea for the people of the North and if you haven’t tasted
this before, you definitely need to.
4. Pito
Pito is an alcoholic beverage prepared from millet or
sorghum. I personally think it’s better than most of the
foreign alcoholic beverages in the country because it is
more nutritive even with no additives.
5. Zimkom
In the process of preparing pito, the millet is fermented
in water and later forced to dry. In doing this, the millet
is packed in to sacks and large stones are placed on it
to drain the water. The water that is drained from the
millet is collected as another beverage and this
beverage is known as Zimkom in the Dagbani language
which means “millet water”. This beverage is well known
for fighting fever and malaria and although it tastes
sour, it is quite delicious.
6. Siroo
Siroo is what most of us know as Sobolo and we believe
most of you thought it is a beverage for the people of
the South (sorry to bust your bubble, it is not).
7. Noono
Noono is also prepared from fresh cow milk and has a
lot of similarities to Brukina.
8. Lamugin
Lamugin is also similar to Tankwan Beer but with
lamugin, lime is added to the mixture.
